DISCO 101

THE NAME DROPPER

LOTS O GROOVES

WHO HAVE I WORKED WITH? Muchos, Lets see, I guess I'll start at the beginning. The Eastside of L.A was saturated with Dj's , flyers were so hard to read, sometimes more spinners than partiers.  A milkcrate of records certified you to put your name on a business card...but,  We had to start somewhere...me too...Next faze.... ...the MACHINES...Wow!!!...TR-808, 707, 727, JUNO 106, JX3P, SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS, DX7, LINN, and OVERDUBBING....what a glorious thing....NOIZE!!!!...Let's make some!!!!

EXPERIMENTS AND LATE NIGHTS.....My first arrangement sounded like the CHASE ....
from Midnight Express... I went to a TARGET store and played it on a stereo .. then some guys came up and asked me what song that was...and what record store I bought it at.... it felt good... I never released that track and to this day... I still have it...maybe one day... but,
it made me begin a new adventure in my life....CREATING.... Here are a list most of the things I've done and people I have worked with ... some famous but mostly cool.... ENJOY!!

My ReSUME : LUTHER VANDROSS, MARLON JACKSON, PAUL SHAFER ( From SNL and David Letterman ), CHERELLE, TERRY LEWIS & JIMMY JAM, PAULA ABDUL, JOHNNY KEMP, JEFF LORBER, STEVE BELTRAN, KEITH COHEN, WAWANEE, LIVING IN A BOX, THEA AUSTIN ( SNAP), AFTER 7, MARTIN RODRIGUEZ, VICTOR FLORES, LUCKY PIERRE,  there is more, but, My memory is at a blank...

BAD LOVE - EMERGENCY - I don't know why I agreed to this GOOFY GROUP NAME - I SHOULD'VE  just released it under the DESIRE name....CHAZ INTERNATIONAL'S owner ..BIJAN wanted this track so bad....HE's a real COOL KAT...I wished his label would've taken off.... I went through three singers for this one, UNTIL I finally settled on LISA BANSE.....Guess What? I have a new version of this...SOON..

SORRY BABY - DESIRE - Nothing went right with this one...THE STUDIO sucked...the concept was shot...
iIT WAS meant to be more commercial...COMMERCIAL!!!...I MUST HAVE THOUGHT I was signed with SONY or WARNER or something....GOOD song though....Girls always liked singing this one...This was RAE'S second and last song with me....

CRAZY DREAMS - T.I.T. - Again, Mike Jaye wanted another one of my tracks for the Tyrants...This time we did the Session at Skip Saylor Studios...He even brought in Frank Del Rio and Pebo Rodriguez on this one,  I was suffocating in the control room...too many bodies...I COULDN'T THINK!!!...I wasn't pleased with the final product...I decided to track a separate rolling bassline...and created a different VIBE ... the  CRAZY  SITUATION TRACK is the best part of the PRODUCTION...

MUSIC: LIST OF PRODUCTIONS AND REMIXES

NUMBER ONE LOVER - J.D. HALL - First released, J.D. was introduced to me by LUCKY PIERRE, I went to TSR records to play some of my tracks to TOM HAYDEN, he liked them, but, since they were instrumentals, He recommended  I work on lyrics and create songs..... I played J.D. some Euro tracks like ROFO and PURPLE FLASH and he dug it, No More James Brown, it was EURO -J.D, .with a little help from PATRICK JENKINS and Jim Callon at JDC ....It was the beginning...

CRAZY OVER YOU  -  DESIRE - The crowd favorite...# 1 12 inch for L.A for two months...FAVORITE SONG at CIRCUS, thanks to FRANK DEL RIO, that LIME GREEN SLEEVE COVER was everywhere....to think it was originally going to be called " My Americana " , J.D. was it the QUAD TECK STUDIOS when I was tracking it and he begged me to let him record it, I even tried singing on it....Then I said....It needs a Female's touch...Rae Flores was my sisters ol' buddy and A GREAT SINGER  always playing with different bands... I asked her to do the track and gave her song writing credit for changing a few words around.. SHE DID IT SO SMOOTH....I went to play it for TSR... and he turned it down....LUCKY KNEW IT WAS A HIT....he came out to the TSR parking lot and TOLD ME about SHEIK RECORDS....TED RAY was one of the oddest looking dudes I'd ever seen, he owned a ONE STOP on PICO BLVD...Lucky said it was going to be huge.... THANKS to everyone  for making it one my biggest songs... THE BEST MEMORY I HAVE from that song was at the LONG BEACH GAY PRIDE FESTIVAL.... WE were on the BILL with SYLVESTER... he was sick in his trailor with a 104 degree fever... we were asked to extend our performance because he was close to cancelling ...WHEN WE did CRAZY over YOU ..he came out to see the crowds reaction .  AFTER we ended, he came up to us and told us how much he LOVED  the SONG ... it  gave  HIM A SPARK to come out and perform... and THAT'S A TRUE STORY.....

TOO TUFF TO CRY - TYRANTS -  I WROTE THE TRACK and Mike Jaye WROTE THE WORDS....I ARRANGED THE vocal and came up with the SAMPLE VOICE...This was many recordings I didi at ECHO SOUND STUDIOS ...This gave the TYRANTS there first HIT....MAYBE MIKE might remember that!! AH GRATITUDE....

I WANNA DANCE - S.A.Y. - THIS WAS ALL FUN...it was the SECOND single for SHEIK...got some cool response for it

FRIDAY NIGHT - SABBY - MY THIRD JDC RELEASE...Mexico LOVES THIS TRACK...originally was supposed to be a part two for a DOUBLE TRACK I WAS going to put out....JIM CALLAN DIDN'T want to pay for both tracks...so I CUT THE first part and never put it out.....THE LOW VOICE made eveyone think i was A BIG BLACK GUY or the JOLLY GREEN GIANT!!!

SWEET FANTASY - LISA SMITH - ORIGINALLY was called " FANTASY LOVE " , But problems arose with a vocalist who claimed she came up with the title...I SAID, THANKS ALOT...I CHANGED THE TITLE and VOCALIST and had my first TSR release...THE ROLLING BASS and PULSE HIT...were crowd favorites....THAT JX3P BASS PATCH was one of my FAVS..
This could've been the SECOND DESIRE tune....but RAE said it was too DISCO....What could I do? OH Well !!!
